Fountainrock (www.youtube.com/fountainrock) got me an exquisitely produced book of ladyshapes for my birthday. We found a huge, unused gallery in the Tate Modern and Fountain suggested I put the porn in the corner to see if people would pick it up, report it, or treat it like an exhibit purely because it happened to be in the gallery. Now, some people were certainly skeptical . . . but no-one touched it or complained. Most people seemed to assume it belonged there, even if they were a bit offended, and with an official plaque I doubt anyone would have been even vaguely surprised. Considering a nearby room contained a film of a naked woman smearing herself with blood and feathers . . . well, you got to love the Tate, right? The best part was that we got away with putting our own exhibit in a prestigious exhibition space and then filmed everybody getting taken in by it. And then picked it up whilst they watched, and walked off. Twice.
